Brief: To provide a new state of the art Hall AV solution that would meet the Head Teachers technology requirements and fit within the Trusts Budgetary requirements.

The Project:

Cardinal Newman Catholic Primary School were having their hall increased in size by approximately 8m’s in length. Based on this, the Head Teacher wanted to improve the Hall AV solution to meet the following Remit:

  • Have a zonal based audio solution. The new hall has a door system centrally positioned so that the hall can be split into two sections and used as two separate classrooms. Each class would be able to operate their own individual audio requirements independently of the other, via one hall audio solution
  • Have two separate image options via two projectors
  • Have 3 AV connectivity area’s. Two for the independent areas of the hall and one in a side room, which would be used for school productions, thus hiding the Audio rack out of site.
  • Have ceiling/hanging MICs by the stage area for school productions. This would be utilised to maximise volume at the back end of the hall for parents and governors watching school productions.
  • Have a state of the art lighting rig with DMX wireless control system – also used for school productions

The Project was completed over 3 distinct periods of time

First Fix:

  • All Speaker, network and and image cabling was installed into the walls. This was done to make sure that no cabling would be visible thus no surface mounted cable management would be used

Second Fix

  • All AV connectivity, mounts, electric screen and speakers were installed and covered to protect them from Dust

Third and Final Fix:

  • Production Lighting, AV Hardware and the Audio rack was installed. Testing configuration and signoff was completed. Training was also provided for all the teachers.

Brief: To provide a range of AV Solutions in various parts of the sixth form School. The Solutions would need to fit within the schools budgetary constraint’s, future proof their technology requirements, and be as uncomplicated as possible for staff to use.

The Project:

1 X New Laser projector in the Main Hall
1 X New Projection solution for the Dining Hall
1 X New Screen for the ICT Suite

An initial onsite survey and discussion with both the Network Manager and Head of School ascertained that the existing School Hall AV technology (in the above mentioned areas of the school) wasn’t meeting the school’s technology requirements.

The Main Hall

The IT Team were keen to update their Main Hall Projector. They wanted a solution that would provide a brighter and more crisp image. They also wanted a projector that would require less maintenance!

After discussion we recommended the following Projector together with a suitable mounting solution:

  • An Epson EBL510U Laser Projector – No bulb and 20,000 hours life span (very low maintenance)
  • RA 600 Grid Mounting Solution (designed for 600 x 600mm suspended ceilings)

The Dining Hall

The school wanted a solution that was similar to the main hall. This would include:

  • Projector
  • Mounting Solution
  • Electric Screen
  • Cabling
  • Suitable powered speakers

To make the solution more economic for the school we utilised their existing Mitsubishi projector from the main hall and fitted this with all the other new technology. The complete installation consisted of the following:

  • Existing Mitsubishi WD720 XGA Projector
  • RA 600 Grid Mounting Solution (designed for 600 x 600mm suspended ceilings)
  • Sapphire 16:9 RF Electric screen
  • Kramer Tavor Powered Speakers
  • HDMI connection plate with 10m active HDMI cable

IT Suite

We installed a large format display within the IT Suite. This is primarily going to be used for:

  • Conferencing
  • IT project upgrades within the school
  • General staff/Pupil presentations

In terms of the technology that was fitted:

  • LG Commercial 70″ Panel
  • Suitable Heavy duty wall mount
  • HDMI connection plate with 10 active HDMI cable

Brief: To provide professional Boardroom level  AV technology that would improve their existing hardware, future proof their technology requirements, be low maintenance and most importantly be simple an uncomplicated for employees to use.

Staff from director level to fund managers and office management wanted a simple way of utilising the space for training, client meetings, sales conferencing, via both wired and wireless means, whilst fitting in with their existing IT Infrastructure.

The Project: An initial onsite survey and discussion with both the Network Manager and head of HR ascertained that the existing technology wasn’t meeting the company’s technology requirements. The projector wasn’t bright enough and fitted in the incorrect position. coupled with poor quality projector imagery due to bad cabling and positioning. The company also had various investments positioned around the room (paintings) that we needed to install around.

To meet the company’s requirements, we had to come up with a suitable projection solution that would provide a big enough image installed on the ceiling (without having a suitable fixing point). An added complication was that the only wall available to put the Projector screen had a painting on it worth around £500,000. So as you can imagine, precise installation expertise were required.

So, SignalmanAV designed the perfect solution meeting both the company’s technology requirements and installation headache (the installation side of the project really concerned the Network Manager):

  • Provide a modern bright projector solution fitted without fixing to the ceiling.
  • Up to date 2k/4k HDMI cabling with steel fascia to the school laptop to plug into
  • Move their Audio system with their AV cabling connections so everything is situated in one part of the room
  • Run new much more robust speaker cabling designed for low Impedance speakers.
  • Build a new Unistrut frame in the ceiling for the recessed projector screen. In many buildings around the city of London, drilling is not allowed. So a Unistrut frame was built utilising the Metal corrugated ceiling (above the tiles)

A list of the Equipment Used:

Euroscreen Tensioned Sesame ceiling recessed electric projection screen with ceiling closure Viewing Area 190cm x 119cm (16:10) 88″ diagonal. Flex White front projection surface with black side borders in hour glass shape 5cm black border below viewing area 30cm black border above the viewing area. White aluminium extruded case with integral trim flange.
Optoma WU416 16:10 Native resolution 1920 x 1200 4200 lumens.
Chief Suspended ceiling mounting solution CMS440 Z006S.
Euroscreen Radio Frequency Kit to control Connect electric – Diplomat electric and the Sesame projection screens. 2 part kit comprising RF Reciever and Transmitter Handset.
Genee Sync 2 Wireless Presentation solution.
Unistrut, fixings assembly, and stud rod (Frame built in ceiling for recessed screen)
Labour by experienced AV integrators

An initial onsite survey and number of in-depth discussions with both the external IT Support company and Head of facilities ascertained that the existing School CCTV solution wasn’t meeting the school’s requirements. The cameras were old and situated in positions that were no longer feasible for the school to accurately monitor different areas of the school. The cabling was out dated, and the hardware was failing.

To meet the school’s requirements, we had to come up with a solution that would future proof their CCTV technology requirements and be simple for designated members of staff to use.

Brief: To provide a replacement School Hall AV Solution that would fit within the Trusts Budgetary restraints, future proof their technology requirements, be low maintenance and most importantly be simple an uncomplicated for the school staff to use.

The Project: An initial onsite survey and discussion with both the Network Manager and Head of School ascertained that the existing School Hall AV solution wasn’t meeting the school’s technology requirements. The projector wasn’t bright enough and fitted in the incorrect position coupled with poor quality audio due to bad cabling and positioning. The school also had Asbestos in the ceiling within the school hall preventing a traditional ceiling mounted solution.

To meet the school’s requirements, we had to come up with a hall projection solution that would provide a big enough image without being installed on the ceiling. An added complication was that the only wall available had a high number of glass windows situated behind a fibre board (acting as a basic projector screen)

So, SignalmanAV designed the perfect solution meeting both the school’s technology requirements and installation headache (the installation side of the project really concerned the Network Manager):

  • Provide the Industries newest and most technologically advanced ultra-Short Throw Projector Solution currently on the market. The Epson EB700U 4000 ANSI lumens laser light source system. This projector provides the largest image of any UST projector current available (up to 130” diagonal)
  • Up to date 2k/4k HDMI cabling with steel fascia to the school laptop to plug into
  • Move their Audio system with their AV cabling connections so everything is situated in one part of the hall
  • Run new much more robust speaker cabling designed for low Impedance speakers.
  • Build a new wooden frame structure designed by our in-house carpenter to fit over existing batons between the windows for the projector installation. This was also painted to match the rest of the school hall.

Brief: To assist Lewisham CC with upgrading their class display/presentation equipment across all 3 Adult Education Centres. Any recommendation had to fit within the budgetary constraints, meet their longer-term technology goals and work with their own tutor BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) requirements.

The Project: Lewisham CC approached SignalmanAV to provide advice, expertise and guidance in the ever-changing world of classroom technology. Their plan was that they wanted to upgrade their classroom technology (in 26 classes) from the traditional whiteboards and projectors producing poor quality images, to a modern slick interactive display that would be 4k compatible, allow connection of multiple platform devices, such as iPads, Android phones, chrome books and windows laptops. They also wanted the technology to be straight forward to use for the external tutors coming into the education centres each week.

“All the Tutors wish to do, is come into the classroom, plug in their laptop and start their lesson” (IT Lead – Lewisham CC)

After much discussion, site surveys and ultimately reviewing costs, Lewisham CC elected to proceed with Iiyama screens. Although not the most well-known brand within the industry, their brief was met at all levels allowing quick implementation of the technology across all three sites.

The whole project consisted of:

  • 26 x Iiyama 65” interactive panels
  • 26 x 3m cable kits and faceplates to keep cables tidy, thus meeting part of their class health and safety requirements
  • 26 x Heavy duty wall mounts – Each class with bespoke installation ( some floor to wall mounts due to non-load bearing installations walls.
  • Professional installation, including commissioning and handover
  • Full ongoing support, both onsite and phone based

With the new technology installed across all three sites Lewisham CC have been able to use the technology in new innovative ways that just weren’t possible with the whiteboards and projectors:

  • The Iiyama screens are full of connectivity. They allow the tutor to plug their laptop straight into the screen whether a VGA, HDMI or DVI connection
  • Use the inbuilt Onboard Iiyama (iiware) system as a back if tutor PC’s fail (annotation software)
  • Enabled Tutors promoting the BYOD to have students connecting their devices to the screens to promote question and answer sessions
  • Multi-touch capability allowing much more collaboration between students
  • Provide a speaking and listening session (soon to be implemented) where classes from three different sites talk to each other via the screens.
